How did we develop the research project – organically, each bringing their own personal experiences, diversity of pathways and therefore different ways in which to approach this project, adding almost building on the ideas resulting in natural progression.

The Awareness Of What Is Happening
On reflection of:
EVERYDAY EXPERIENCE IS LOCATED IN OUR EXPERIENCE OF THE WORLD
Our world is made up of our many experiences that fit together to create the bigger picture. This picture continually grows, becoming larger as all that is new becomes familiar (like the base core Elicia referred to as our central emotions and how we relate to the world based upon these).
In relation to my first experiences of my new life in Farnham I felt the whole experience was very much like gathering new bits of information from a variety of sources (whether it be where I can source an organic vegetable box from, to how do I find my way to room G152?). I naturally compared it to deciphering visual information on random pieces of a jigsaw, choosing the relevant pieces and piecing them together to make sense of the overall puzzle.
After initially brainstorming all our first experiences of Farnham the group felt that this idea was quite suitable. It was quickly bounced back and forth, each individual adding to it. Lesley suggested the overall puzzle take the shape of the UCCA logo. Elicia’s graphic training visualised the outer segment of the logo symbolising our visual impressions and the centre our emotions. Individuals wanted to bring an element of themselves to their segment of the puzzle, their pathways determining choice in medium – 3D, paint, textiles, graphics, animation, Interior – considerations of time restraints and actual relevance were needed at this point.
After our group tutorial with Sarah Sutherland we were quick to consolidate our ideas to form a more focussed vision of the final outcome. Simplification by concentrating on first experiences only. Continual discussions, 2D idea development, recording of ideas in written form have resulted in natural progression.
The Puzzle – individual pieces containing photos representing visual first impressions of Farnham fit together onto a screen format. As the last segment locks into place sections of images fade leaving the other sections that make up the UCCA logo (negative space around logo containing sections of images fade to white). The central section of logo, i.e. the circle, does not contain imagery but instead contains many words (a ball of text) representing the many emotions experienced. Mago suggested that each word could be in a different colour relating to that particular emotion. This puzzle would be in computer format with animation used to create the morphing effect of the pieces changing/fading into the logo (courtesy of Charlotte and Dan’s animating skills).
At times ideas have become over-complicated as tangents have naturally led us onto considering the many possibilities. Through discussion and reflection, reminders of the aims and objectives of the project have kept our ideas focussed and simplified. It has developed organically through equal group participation, each individual consistently contributing, influencing and manipulating the idea resulting in natural evolvement.
Although we have stuck with the basic initial idea, we have developed and built upon it to form a simple yet effective way of communicating our first experiences of Farnham not only from individual’s perspective but also from the group’s as a whole.

Hi Everyone, This is my bit of blurb for the presentation, maybe people could add bits if it's any good?
Our original idea for the presentation came about through a discussion about our experiences of both the uni and the town. Tara had just moved to the area and her impression was that she was part of a huge jigsaw puzle, each piece slotting graually into place in her life. Most of the group were able to identify with these feelings as; some had only just arrived in Farnham themselves. he quantity of information and paperwork to take onboard contributed to the overall impression of something gradually coming together. Throughout our group meetings the idea changed and evolved in an extremely organic way, each person contributing enthusiasticaly to the final outcome and all ieas were discussed and evaluated.
We were fortunate to have a wide variety of skills within the group, the primary one being peoples ability to communicate their ideas. Elisa opened us a blog and Charlotte typed up the results of each meeting, in this way we were able to keep in touch and refer to the initial idea we had discussed. As the blog began to grow with people's impressions of Farnham and general ideas the final presentation began to appear almost automatically. It neede work but a framework began to emerge.
Logistics dictated that the presentation was an on screen digital one. the time element and limited workshop accrss could have been aproblem if we had decided to go for a 3D format. this was dissapointing for some of us but after some consideration an animation was decided on. Once again we were fortunate to have people with the right skills for the job. Daniel and Charlotte were able tot produce what was needed.
The original plan was to find a visual way of conveyingthe aidea of a jigsaw puzzle, lesley suggestedthat the college logo would provide a base to use, as it was easily recognised and evident in all parts of the building, Mago had mentioned the fact in an earlier conversation.
Elisa sketched it out and suggested that the exterior C shapemight be our visualimpressions of Farnham and the interior disc could represent the emotions felt when first encountering the palce.It was problematical to retain the basic elemnts of the idea and convey the original meaning as ideas began to flow and at one point the puzzle grew too complex, it became about ourselves and our work rather than our impressions of Farnham.It would have been easy at this particular point to go way off track and end up with something other tha our origina idea and the project brief. We recognised this fact and steered ourselves back to the meaning we wished to convey which is that of shared experience and different skills coming togetherto make one Farnham.

(The intention as discussed to basically explain how we got from idea to idea to outcome, explaining our reflection and how we got there.)
- Register how outcomes have changed (reflection)
- What was the main objective?
(We already have a very clear message.)
- How was the form decided?
(using images possibly oh how we came around to our final idea)
- Identify the skills that enabled us to form
(how we worked together and seemed to mesh so well. We realised straight away how alike we all are and how much we can all rely on each other for different skills. We appreciate that we can do that.)
- Convey a massive message
(we believe our message to be very powerful and very true)
